The main concept for this project was to create a building that felt as though it was fully encompassed and immersed by nature. Taking inspiration from the always accessible roof garden of the Glassell School of Art by Steven Holl, a bat viewing area was that was accessible even after the building closed was vital to the design. The gradual slope of the Glassell, also inspired the fully ADA accessible garden that was incorporated to the bat colony station. By using the datum line of the bridge, the building was to be minimally visible from street level, immersing it with the surrounding vegetation of the bayou slope. The façade system was inspired by the waiving tree trunks of the Bald Cypress, and Sycamore trees found all over the bayou.
